Rockwell Automation Situation

Rockwell Automation is a motor manufacturing company in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Rockwell has been operating at their current facilities for over 20 years. The building was still meeting their manufacturing needs, however, their air conditioning system was over 20 years old and in desperate need of replacement. The facility used 14 roof top units for cooling the building. The units are expensive to remove and replace. With the high cost, Rockwell Automation executives knew their budget wouldn’t allow them to replace all 14 units at one time.

Solution
The plant manager at Rockwell Automation, Steve Grizzle, contacted Conditioned Air Systems about their aging air conditioning units. Conditioned Air technicians understood the necessity of the cooling system and the inability to replace all the units simultaneously.

An agreement was made to replace five of their 40-ton units each year for three years. This would allow the facility to remain operable while still remaining within their budget.

Roof top air conditioners are large units and due to the layout of the facility and the size of the building it required the use of a helicopter to remove and replace them. Due to planning and coordination, the rooftop AC units were removed and replaced in half a day with the use of the helicopter and the total duration of project required just one-week to complete. This meant minimal down time for the company.

Results
Conditioned Air’s flexibility has allowed Rockwell Automation to meet their goal of replacing all the units while also meeting their budget restraints.

By the end of summer 2005 Rockwell Automation will have a completely new system that was installed professionally with minimal down time. Also, the new units are more efficient, which saves a great deal in energy costs. (top)
