Residential HVAC Repair

Should you find yourself in the unenviable position of owning a malfunctioning air conditioner – especially in the midst of a Georgia summer – you will want the problem solved right away.

That said, residential AC repair is not always a simple fix. Certainly, there are some easy checks to be made, but there are also problems that require intensive knowledge of residential HVAC technology.

RESIDENTIAL AC REPAIR

When your home’s HVAC stops kicking out cold air there is a quick checklist to be mindful of:

  • Thermostat – It could be that simple. Make sure your thermostat is set to cooling phase and set the temperature lower than your home’s current temperature reading. Allow a few minutes before making a determination.
  • Power – Both the thermostat and cooling unit itself need power. If the thermostat does not respond, make sure it has fresh batteries. Check the switch at your air handler to see that it has not been turned off (it will be located on or near the unit, which is inside your home). You also need to check your circuit breakers/fuses to ensure they are not tripped/burned out. Also be sure to check the circuit breakers/fuses on the compressor outside your house.
  • Air filter – A clogged filter restricts airflow and can prevent cool air from circulating through your home. It could also cause your HVAC system’s coils to freeze. If it is dirty, replace it with a new one that meets your manufacturer’s requirements.

WHEN TO CALL A PRO

If none of the options listed above cure your residential air conditioning (AC) repair needs, it’s probably a good idea to call a professional.

There are more steps you could undertake, such as checking for refrigerant leaks, a malfunctioning AC circuit board, capacitor, thermostat or fan motor, but those fixes require more than a cursory knowledge of an air conditioning unit.
